SH1 Road Freight Delays

State Highway One and Main North Rail Line – Closed overnight
Passages between Christchurch to Kaikoura were closed overnight due to fires and weather related disruption in the region. These passages have recently been reopened this morning.
KiwiRail’s teams need to conduct full track inspections before rail services can resume.

As a consequence services affected are:

• Freight ex Auckland destined to Christchurch both Road and Rail departed 20/10/2025
• All freight ex Christchurch destined to Auckland both Road and Rail departed 21/10/2025
• Freight loaded ex Christchurch last night northbound, Blenheim and Nelson.

All freight services south of Christchurch are running on time.

The weather forecast for Thursday indicates potential for even more severe weather than experienced yesterday which may cause further disruptions.
